Cameras were nearly ubiquitous when I was growing up. My father always seemed to have one ready and available whenever he wasn’t working. Of course, I became interested in photography very early in my life. Not only did I want to emulate Dad, but he showed me how capturing a moment can result in something powerful … touching … insightful.
Or … a photo can serve as a record … a reminder … of days gone by …
Do you remember that fancy coat and hat you had to wear on a visit to the grandparents when you were two years old? Cowboy attire and my six-guns would have been my preference.
I don’t know if Dad owned stock in Kodak, but based on the amount of Kodachrome he used, he certainly contributed to its value.
Dad frequently staged family showings of his latest works. He would get out the projector, line up carousels of slides, set up the screen, darken the room, arrange the seating and announce the start of the photo show premier.
Those were good times. Lots of laughs, especially as our family grew. With seven siblings, there are plenty of photo opps … classic “Kodak Moments” … if you have the time.
I will be sharing some of my photos on this site. My hope is that you enjoy them, and I invite your comments.
